CSL was contracted to design and commission, the automation, the SCADA and the telemetry aspects for the Laois Towns and Villages Wastewater Improvement Scheme. The works involved the provision of five new modern wastewater treatment plants at the following locations
A SCADA system was installed in Abbeyleix, the system monitors and controls all five sites. The SCADA software is based around Wonderware’s Intouch 11.1 software. The software combines top-class graphics and smarter functions that provide intuitive operations. The software is installed on a workstation complete with a 21 inch monitor. The software provides comprehensive graphics, archiving reporting and alarming. The graphics provide a real-time animated view of the status of all monitored equipment while the trending delivers a reporting tool which provides the user with real-time / historical view of all the data from the plant’s instrumentation. All the data will be archived and logged onto the PC’s hard disc. The operator is able to manually control the equipment and change setpoints via the SCADA.
CSL developed and implemented a WAN (Wide Area Network) that operated a VPN (Virtual Private Network) telemetry link so that the 8 PLCs in the scheme could communicate with a central SCADA. Firewall protection was provided to ensure that the network is secure. The sites are connected to the VPN using 3G routers.
The telemetry links allows for reading and writing which make it possible to monitor and control all the equipment in the remote sites.
